Sonia Shalit

1923  - 2014

Sonia Kish Shalit was born in Dundee, Scotland in 1923. She grew up in London where she also later studied clothing design and painting.  From 1946 to 1942, during WWII she served in the British Army. 

 

After her release, she lived for several years in South Africa where she worked designing clothes. Upon her return to London, she worked at Telex.   Sonia emigrated to Israel in 1957. She worked as a secretary in Haifa. Later, she moved to Tel Aviv and worked as a secretary for the Dead Sea Company for 12 years. 

 

Sonia Kish Shalit is a painter who has exhibited her works in several exhibitions. She was a long standing volunteer in Tel Aviv Municipality thelping to care for families in distress and reading books to the blind. 

She served as Deputy Chair of the Cultural Committee of the American Immigrant Organization.
